The Civil Guard arrests fourteen people for the crime of public disorder (14/08/2017)

Two citizens and two agents were injured as well as a damaged vehicle

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed an investigation to clarify the public disturbances that took place in Fortuna last July, which has resulted in the identification, location and detention of 14 residents of the town for their alleged active participation In the altercation in which several people were injured and property damage was caused.

On the afternoon of July 27th there was a rally before the City of Fortuna, taking advantage of the celebration of the plenary.

The call for the concentration was promoted by social networks and had the purpose of protesting against the behavior of the gypsy ethnic families that had occupied several houses of the locality.

The participants in the concentration moved from the municipal building to the area of ​​occupied duplexes, where a police cordon, composed of a dozen agents of the Civil Guard and the Local Police, had been arranged to avoid alterations.

When the people arrived concentrated the incidents, consisting of throwing of stones towards the houses and a parked vehicle that suffered damages, as well as aggressions towards two people began.

Police officers had to be thoroughly employed to prevent the severity of the disturbances from rising.

During this action, two agents were slightly injured by the throwing of stones.

In later days there were new concentrations encouraged by social networks, until finally Roma families left the occupied buildings.

The investigation opened by the Guardia Civil to clarify the facts has allowed to identify fourteen neighbors of the locality that presumably took part of more actively form in the incidents of public order, reason why, after being located, they have been arrested like presumed authors of The crime of public disorder.

The detainees of Spanish nationality, neighbors of Fortuna and between 20 and 48 years of age, along with the investigations instructed, have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Cieza (Murcia).

The investigation continues open to clarify the authorship of the illegal occupation of the houses by the alleged crimes of usurpation of real estate, defraudation of electrical fluid and fraud, reason why it is not ruled out new actions and detentions.

The crime of public disorder

The Penal Code establishes that those who, acting in groups or individually but protected in it, alter the public peace by executing acts of violence on people or things, or threatening others to carry them out, shall be punished with a penalty of six months To three years in prison.

These penalties will be imposed without prejudice to those that may correspond to the specific acts of violence or threats that have been carried out.
