This morning several members of the Fortuna Animal Protective Association - APAF have appeared in the town hall of the City Council to present their ultimatum to comply with the current legislation on animal welfare to the new municipal corporation.
Reminding them that at the municipal level, on April 4, 2018, PP unanimously adopted the unanimous decision of all the previous corporation, to guarantee the effective application of the new regional law of protection and animal possession in the municipality of Fortuna (Law 6/2017, of 8 November, protection and possession of companion animals of the Region of Murcia), which corresponds to both the collection and capture of abandoned and / or lost animals (Art. 32, b. ), enable suitable spaces, properly marked and marked for the recreation with pets (Art. 8), the constitution of feline colonies to promote both the protection and population control of street cats (Art. 25), as well as velar because there is no proliferation of abandoned animals in our municipality (Article 26) and;
as well as the provision, as far as possible, of all the material support necessary for the development of the social activity of the Entity by the City Council so that Fortuna is a municipality with "SACRIFICE ANIMAL 0".
The association alleges that since then little or nothing has been advanced in this matter by the consistory, receiving resounding denials and lack of interest, empathy and willingness on the part of the former socialist mayor, José Enrique Gil Carrillo.
But now with the new and newly created Department of Animal Welfare, the Association hopes that this situation of passivity ends, so they propose the creation of a permanent working table for animal welfare and defense, which meets with a minimum periodicity, open to the participation of all groups and entities of animal and environmental protection, veterinary professionals, the person in charge of the environmental unit (or animal protection in its absence if it were created) of the Local Police of Fortuna, and an elected representative of each Municipal Group constituted in the Town Hall.
With clearly established goals, to start working so that the City of Fortuna begins to assume the powers granted by Law 6/2017, of November 8, protection and defense of companion animals of the Region of Murcia.
Giving the Consistory a period of 90 days so that it begins to make effective the application of said regulations, before being forced to resort to the legal way.
