The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, within the framework of the so-called TALE operation, has investigated a neighbor of Fortuna as the alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals for animal abuse.
The investigation began when an animal protection association, dedicated to the rescue of dogs of the Greyhound and Podenco breeds, denounced before the Civil Guard the finding of four dead dogs in the cistern of an abandoned farm, located in Fortuna.
Specialists of the Nature Protection Service initiated an investigation to locate the animals and determine the causes of their death, as well as to find out, in any case, why they had been deposited in the cistern without the corresponding hygienic-sanitary measures required for Inhumation of animals
The investigations carried out were positive with the finding of the bodies in a disused tank, of those used to collect and conserve water, located inside a house in a state of abandonment located in an isolated area of ​​the municipality.
SEPRONA specialists obtained different vestiges at the scene and collected the corresponding veterinary forensic report, which allowed to know that two of the dogs had died by hanging and another of them, the result of various bruises on the skull.
The investigation carried out below culminated in the identification of a 54-year-old male, Spanish and neighbor of Fortuna, who has been instructed as alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals for animal abuse .
Crime of animal abuse
The crime of animal abuse is included in the Criminal Code, which defines it as the fact of unreasonably mistreating animals, by any means or procedure, causing injuries that seriously undermine their health and is punishable by penalties of three months and one day. to a year of imprisonment and special disqualification of one year and one day to three years for the exercise of profession, trade or trade related to animals and for the possession of animals.

With the main objective of raising public awareness to promote the necessary measures in the protection, management and welfare of domestic animals, as well as to denounce those behaviors contrary to the animal welfare of which they are aware, the Civil Guard began in July 2017 campaign #YoSiPuedoContarlo.
