The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and the Environment is going to carry out the work of improvement and adaptation in thirteen municipal hills of Fortuna, with a total area of ​​3,700 hectares, and distributed in the surroundings of the Mountain range of the Pila, fruit of a Agreement signed between the Ministry and the City.
The total amount of the agreement is 481,250 euros.
Some of the planned actions are aimed at fire prevention and consist of clearings and pruning to reduce horizontal and vertical continuity in case of occurrence.
The director general of Rural Development and Forestry, Federico García, who met this week with the Mayor of Fortuna, José Enrique Gil, said that "these works will allow to improve forest ecosystems, strengthen their biological diversity and increase the resistance of Mountains to the spread of fire, as well as favoring the regeneration of degraded masses. Another part of the performances will focus on the recreational area of ​​'Fuente La Higuera', an area very visited by those who come to the regional park.

The objective of these works is to improve areas and infrastructures of the mountains such as the Cortao de la Peña Trail, the La Verea Fountain, the Poza Felix, the Pastor refuge of Puerto Frio, a part of the trail network of 'Fortuna Natural' And the Visitor Center of the Sierra de la Pila.
In the Poza Felix, natural water spring located in the Monte 'Puerto de Arriba', will be carried out an adaptation of the current water deposit to avoid the mortality of the fauna.
In the place 'Fuente de la Verea' there is another water source, next to which there is an old watering raft and an irrigation ditch that will be restored for the conservation of its ethnographic values ​​and facilitate its use by visitors.
The network of trails 'Fortuna Natural' extends practically all the municipal mountains, and with the works associated with this agreement are intended to make known through it the natural and ethnographic resources that are hidden in this forest area of ​​the municipality.
The network of trails will be improved in some points and endowed with informative signage to facilitate its use by the visitors of the natural space.
In the Sierra de la Pila Visitors Center, located in the mountain of public utility 'Cord of the Vereda', it is planned to carry out work on the carpentry and plumbing of the building, the revision of covers and other actions necessary for its maintenance .
